Ashton to release La Aroma de Cuba “Mi Amor”

La Aroma de Cuba has been flying off the shelves since Ashton re-released it at last year’s IPCPR. This year, the buzz around the water-cooler is centered around their newest offering: La Aroma de Cuba Mi Amor.

Mi Amor is a cigar that has been two years in the making. Again, cigar genius Don “Pepin” Garcia has collaborated with Ashton to masterfully create a beautiful smoke  that is certain not to disappoint. The Mi Amor features an attractive Cuban-seed Mexican wrapper and a smart combination of aged Nicaraguan tobaccos. Well-balanced, rich, and complex, this newest La Aroma de Cuba edition is being described as medium bodied. It’s been said that the retail price on this cigar is being kept extremely reasonable so all cigar lovers can enjoy a fantastic quality smoke, even in this economy.

Emerson’s Cigars in Hampton Roads, Virginia is expecting this cigar to arrive sometime in September to their brick and mortar stores as well as their online store. In fact, they’ve been hinting that there might be a La Aroma de Cuba Mi Amor in-store event added to their famed Superstar cigars Tour. If so, La Aroma lovers can expect amazing deals both at the event and online. You can sign up for their online event deals by visiting their website www.EmersonsCigars.com  If you’re already a La Aroma de Cuba fan, they are currently running a deal that offers a free one-year membership to cigar Rights of America if you purchase a box of La Aroma de Cuba or La Aroma de Cuba Edicion Especial.

Basic Tips for the Cigar: What to Do & What Not to Do

People have tryst with cigars, and more seriously with premium cigars, which are known for their quality and richness in taste. The amazing fact is that most of the cigar lovers love to go for brand, and they often love comparing their brand of Premium Cigars with that of premium quality cigs. Cigar lovers seriously feel that premium cigars are the matter of luxury and status as compared to cigs belonging to similar levels.
The important fact is why Premium Cigars are choicest option than the non Premium Cigars. Well, there are many reasons of choosing Premium Cigars, and the two foremost reasons include, Flavor and Taste. Given the choice of smoking a cigar, a smoker would relish the taste and flavor of Premium Cigars over any other type of cigar sold in the market.  Amidst all reasons for choosing Premium Cigars, listed below are few essential tips that would help a cigar smoker to get real cigar taste when smoking:
•    Check out the wrapper or the binder of the premium cigars. It is essential for two important reasons. The wrapper made from tobacco leaves holds the nicotine content in a cigar bounded together, and second, it adds to cigar’s flavor. Therefore, make sure that you find that cigar’s tobacco leaf wrapper is made from fresh tobacco leaves. •    When you buy Premium cigar, buy them right from a reputed cigar dealer, and this will ensure that you get best quality and tasty cigar to smoke. And, moreover, you don’t have to worry about the quality. •    When you go for buying premium cigars, make sure that you buy a darker cigar and this is for one simple reason altogether. The darker the cigar’s wrapper, stronger will be its flavor. Keep in mind this particular formula while choosing from the line of Premium Cigars.•    Make an appropriate cut before smoking a cigar. You can use any of the appropriate methods to cut the cigar. These appropriate methods include, knife, cigar scissors, V-cutter etc. Make sure that you cut the cigar from its head, to enjoy tastier puffs of premium cigars. •    Lighting premium cigars in a particular way is as important as choosing them. When you light a cigar, make sure that the cigar’s end is evenly charred. This would allow the smoke to wallow around the mouth and give you the real taste and pleasurable smoking experience. •    Hold the Premium cigars between your index finger and the thumb. This is the general style and often recommended. Don’t hold them like you hold cigs for many obvious reasons.•    When you buy Premium Cigars, make sure that the length of ash of Premium Cigars should be long enough to give you a tasty smoking experience.  Keep these points clear when buying Premium Cigars to have an enjoyable and tasty cigar smoking experience.

Cigar Trend Alert: Custom Cigar Bands

Cigars have become a fixture in celebrating momentous occasions. They’ve been smoked on birthdays, weddings, golf outings, company parties, anniversaries, and military homecomings. They’re most notably enjoyed to commemorate the birth of a new baby.

Recent buzz has been centered around making these events just a little more special, and a lot more personal, by adding a custom cigar bands to these celebratory cigars. Emerson’s Cigars, a five location retailer in Hampton Roads, Virginia, launched their Custom Band program early this year. They offer many pre-designed templates but also give the option to turn your personal vision into reality through custom artwork.

Wedding season is in full bloom. And though cigars during the reception have always been a tradition, in recent years “Cigar with the Bride and Groom” has become extremely popular.
Custom  cigar  bands can offers that personal touch that will not only impress guests, but adds a special element to the wedding experience. One could have the Father of the Bride and/or the Father of the Groom pass them out at the reception or have them on a table as a wedding favor. Another idea is to save some of your wedding cigars in a humidor to enjoy the first anniversary! Who wants stale cake when you could have a premium, handmade cigar?

Golf season is also in full bloom. In a world full of no-smoking signs, there remains one oasis where the cigar lover can be free. The Golf Course. Imagine a beautiful day, the dew on the emerald-colored green is starting to settle. Birds are lightly chirping and you feel the cool breeze on your cheek.  It’s the perfect moment for a cigar. Moments like these need to be celebrated in style. Emerson’s Cigars’  custom band program is full-service, from start to finish, so all you have to worry about the day of your tournament is the weather.

Emerson’s Cigars has an entire section of their website (www.EmersonsCigars.com) dedicated to their Custom Band program. You can also find out more by visiting any of their locations in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia.

Kristoff "cigar"- new size, same amazing cigars

This year as part of their Superstar Cigar Tour, Emerson’s Cigars hosted Glen Case of Kristoff at their brick and mortars. Recently, Kristoff introduced a new Corona size for their blends so I thought I’d review a couple of my favorites- The Kristoff Sumatra and the Kristoff Ligero Maduro.

Kristoff Sumatra "Cigar"

After the popularity of the Kristoff Series came the release of the newest line, the Kristoff Sumatra. Very indicative of an elite Cuban, this cigar has a beautiful, rich Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper. The filler, like many others from the Kristoff line, is a combination of Cuban seed Dominican and Cuban seed Nicaraguan tobaccos. It's easy to taste the velvety, floral flavors meld nicely with the rich spice from that Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper. The cigar still maintains a lovely smooth, sweet finish that makes the Kristoff Sumatra the definition of quality craftsmanship.

Wrapper: Ecuadorian Sumatra
Filler: Cuban seed Orlor Dominican and Nicaraguan
Binder: Brazilian
Strength: Medium Bodied

Kristoff Ligero Maduro "Cigar"

The Kristoff Ligero Maduro, delicately handmade, is typically a favorite line of the Kristoff brand of cigars. That's because when the ever popular Brazilian Maduro wrapper combines with Cuban seed Dominican and Cuban seed Nicaraguan filler, the result is flavors of dried cherry, coffee and cocoa beans, but with a snappy but nectarous finish. I guess you could say the Kristoff Ligero Maduro is sugar, spice, and everything nice.

Wrapper: Brazilian Maduro
Filler: Cuban seed Orlor Dominican and Nicaraguan
Binder: Cuban seed Orlor Dominican
Strength: Medium to Full Bodied

Emerson’s Cigars carries Kristoff in their brick and mortar stores, scattered all over Hampton Roads, Virginia. They also sell online at www.EmersonsCigars.com

Illusione Nosotros Cigar

What happens when you combine the refinement of Dion Giolito with the ingenuity of Jonathan Drew? Perfection might be a strong word but it just might apply to Nosotros by Illusione. This one-of-a-kind cigar is special not only because it marries two leading companies (Illusione and Drew Estates) but this blend was reaching a little outside both their comfort zones.

Literally meaning “us,” you’d think it would take multiple tries to create the right blend but these two got it right the first time.  A hand-selected Corojo 99 meets a rare Connecticut Habano binder with classic Nicaraguan filler. This medium body has spice where you don’t expect it, but a smooth complexity that magnifies the taste buds.

Jonathan Drew might not have used his signature infusion techniques, but he definitely added some sort of magic when they created the Nosotros. These cigars available at Emerson’s Cigars in Hampton Roads, Virginia at any of their five brick and mortars. Out of the area? Get them online at www.emersonscigars.com". Free shipping on orders over $100. Happy smokes!!

Top Smokes for Spring

Some people think that spotting a robin is a sign that Spring has finally arrived. But for me, finally putting that snow shovel away and digging out that lawn chair from the garage so I can sit outside and enjoy an afternoon cigar is the true expression of Spring.

The first cigar on the first temperate day of the year is no small occasion. It’s the first pitch of baseball, the first day of school, the Black Friday of the Spring season. The first smoke is magic. So, choosing the right cigar is imperative.  There are few things worse than waiting all Winter to smoke only to be disappointed because you chose a bad cigar. Emerson’s Cigars (www.emersonscigars.com) has a huge selection of premium cigars and accessories and is sure to have the perfect cigar for any occasion. Below are my selections from Emerson’s huge inventory. You can buy from their online store or at any one of their locations in Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, or their new location in Hampton, VA.

If you’re looking for a mild cigar, I recommend the Montecristo White. With the success of the Montecristo series came a demand for a milder, more gentle version. Jose Seijas responded with the extremely popular Montecristo White. A hand-selected Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade wrapper envelops the Dominican/Nicaraguan fillers resulting in a creamy, smooth, but still complex flavor. This is a very well-rounded smoke with a luxurious quality.  The Montecristo White is also an amazing cigar for the golf course. Emerson’s Cigars has them in a variety of sizes.

If you want to dip your toe in the cigar smoking waters with a medium bodied cigar, I recommend the Kristoff Sumatra. This is a great “grillin steaks on a Sunday afternoon” cigar. If you love Kristoff, Emerson’s Cigars offers an amazing sampler with a travel humidor included. Check out www.emersonscigars.com for details.

If you want to take a small step up from medium bodied smokes, the San Cristobal Seleccion del Sol is the perfect medium to full bodied cigar and one of my top picks for Spring. Hailed as one of the most requested cigars of 2009, the San Cristobal Seleccion Del Sol is a treat for palate. Handcrafted by the legend himself, Don “Pepin” Garcia, the Del Sol features an extremely special sun-grown wrapper, grown especially for this cigar on the Garcia’s family’s Estrella farm in the fertile, lush paradise of Esteli, Nicaragua. Estrella sits on a picturesque plot of land surrounded by green hills, where sunlight abounds and the soil is thick and dark as coal. Pepin and his son, Jaime, hand-selected this magnificent wrapper from the first crop of tobacco harvested from Estrella. With complex flavors full of cedar, earth, and spice, and finished with notes of dark chocolate, the Seleccion Del Sol is the sun on my Spring day.

The art of choosing a cigar to gift

Across the globe, cigars have marked momentous occasions. They’ve been smoked to celebrate a wedding, birthday, anniversary, and even the birth of a new baby. So it is no surprise that cigars are becoming increasingly popular as gift choices. This article provides a gift guide to help eliminate some of the confusion of selecting the right cigar.

There are various ways to categorize cigars: shape, strength, size, origin and production method (hand-rolled or machine). Generally, cigars are categorized by size, which denotes length in inches and ring diameter often specified in 64th of an inch. Fuente Hemingway, Rocky Patel Edge, Villiger 1888, Winston Churchill, Partagas

After making up your mind for a particular cigar size, concentrate on the exterior appearance of cigar.  Different wrappers carry with them different textures and flavors. For a novice smoker, Emerson’s Cigars suggests you choose a mild cigar such as the Rocky Patel Edge Lite or the Montecristo White. Both cigars have a gentle Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper.

More experienced palates might prefer a more full-bodied cigar. Emerson’s Cigars offers the most popular brands like Camacho (think Camacho Triple Maduro ), Cain Nub,Tatuaje, La Gloria Cubana, Siglo, Oliva, and J Fuego- all with full-bodied offerings. One of the most highly-received cigars is the Padron line which has become very popular for blends such as the Padron Family Reserve, Padron 1926 Anniversary, Padron 1926 Limited Edition, and the Padron 1964 Anniversary. These cigars are among the highest rated of all time and with tons of flavor- they make the perfect gift. Most companies can’t get the Padron Series in stock but Emerson’s Cigars always finds a way.

The value of a cigar gift also depends upon the brand and the reliability of the source. Emerson’s Cigars is the trusted one-stop shop for getting all your favorite top brands of premium quality cigars. They also offer a wide range of cigar accessories like cigar cases, cigar cutters, and cigar humidors.

Remember- all cigars tell a story. What will your story be?

Tips To Preserve Cigars for Longer Period

Sometimes, premium quality cigars like Fuente, Hemingway, Rocky Patel Edge and Padron etc go out-of-stock because of unexpected high demand. To keep quality cigars for the special moments for yourself and guests, it is good to get the cigars of your choice from the trusted sources like Emerson’s Cigars well in advance. Apart from it, experienced cigar smokers know the pleasure of smoking extra aged cigars and you get the all around appreciation for your hospitality.

After getting the cigars well in advance, you need to store them safe from cigar termites. Presence of tobacco beetles in cigars may make your money a waste. If you do not inspect stored cigars regularly, tobacco beetles may reach even into the fresh cigar lot. A reddish brown powder at the bottom or in the corners of your humidor is the primary symptom of their existence.
To avoid such a situation, deep freeze every cigar you possess for 3 days. After 72 hrs, do not take out the cigar box directly in to the open but shift it on the lower shelf of your refrigerator and let it be there for another 24 hrs. Otherwise, even the premium quality original cigars sourced from the most trusted cigar outlet like Emerson’s Cigars will get swelling on the surface resulting in dense tears causing black smoke.

During this waiting period, cleaning cigar humidor is a great idea to reduce the possibility of tobacco beetles further. Clean your cigar humidor with a soft damp cloth to catch the residual tobacco parts resting on floor. You may use a soft bristle brush also to clean the congested spaces. Use of cleaning agents may spoil the specific flavor of your premium category cigars. The quality of your cigar humidor is also important for long period safe storage, so always use quality cigar humidors available at Emerson’s Cigars like leading cigars suppliers. Temperature of 74F or above is more favorable for cigar Tobacco beetles production so keep your humidor at 68F-70F or lower.

Emerson’s Cigars introduces Fuente Hemingway

Emerson’s Cigars has introduced Fuente Hemingway - one of the finest brands of cigars over the years. Famous for its mesmerizing taste, Fuente Hemingway is usually released around the holidays and will now be readily available through Emerson’s Cigars.

According to the spokesperson of Emerson’s Cigars, “Fuente Hemingway is the right kind of smoking gesticulation that stands a class apart amongst the true cigar lovers." In between 1920s and 40s, the cigar brand Fuente Hemingway was highly popular. As the time went on, the natural life cycle took its course, the pool of cigar rollers capable of making such a cigar dwindled. However, with Emerson’s Cigar latest venture, cigar enthusiasts will now surely be able to enjoy this ageless product.

The spokesperson said, “Only the most delicately fermented and aged tobaccos, specially selected from only the best crop time, make up the blend for this cigar”. Smoking this cigar creates a long solid ash that the cigar-lover will be bigheaded to show off. It is a straightforward cigar bringing enjoyment from the beginning. “As your ash begins to form, you will discover notes of coffee and cedar and it will turn out a massive amount of creamy smoke for your pallet”, added the spokesperson.

The highly sought after Fuente Hemingway cigars are handmade by the most experienced cigar makers, each of whom are limited to produce 75 cigars per day. The cigar is aged an additional six months after being rolled and is most impressive directly from the box. Emerson’s Cigars believes that the cigar will smolder the smoker’s fingers as one enters the final segments, but he will not be disappointed because a well-built leather flavor is how the Fuente Hemingway will finish.

By bringing Fuente Hemingway to true cigar lovers, Emerson’s Cigars will surely move ahead with a promise to offer finest tobacco products and a great shopping experience.

Cigars

What is Cigars?

A tightly rolled bundle of dried and fermented tobacco which is ignited to draw its smoke into the mouth is known as cigar. Brazil, Cameroon, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Honduras, Indonesia, Mexico, Nicaragua, Philippines, and the Eastern United States are the largest producers of Cigar tobacco.

Composition of Cigars

Cigars are composed of three types of tobacco leaves, whose variations determine smoking and flavor characteristics:

a.) Wrappers

A widest part of the plant is used to make outermost leaves, or wrapper of cigar. Cigar’s character and flavor is determined by its wrapper and its color is used to describe the cigar as a whole. Over 100 wrapper shades are identified by manufacturers, but some common classification are Double Claro, Claro, Colorado Claro, Colorado, Colorado Maduro, Maduro, Oscuro.

b.) Fillers

The majority of a cigar is made up of fillers, wrapped-up bunches of leaves inside the wrapper. Fillers of various strengths are usually blended to produce desired cigar flavors. In the cigar industry this is referred to as a "blend. The more oils present in the tobacco leaf, the stronger (less dry) the filler. Types range from the minimally flavored Volado taken from the bottom of the plant, through the light-flavored Seco (dry) taken from the middle of the plant, to the strong Ligero from the upper leaves exposed to the most sunlight. Fatter cigars of larger gauge hold more filler, with greater potential to provide a full body and complex flavor. When used, Ligero is always folded into the middle of the filler because it burns slowly.

C.) Binders

Binders are elastic leaves used to hold together the bunches of fillers. Essentially, binders are wrappers that are rejected because of holes, blemishes, discoloration, or excess veins.

Smoking

To smoke a cigar, a smoker possibly cuts it, lights it, then puts the unlit end into the mouth and draws smoke into the mouth. Some smokers inhale the smoke into the lungs, particularly with little cigars, but this is relatively uncommon otherwise. A smoker may swirl the smoke around in the mouth before exhaling it, and may exhale part of the smoke through the nose in order to smell the cigar better as well as to taste it.

Types of Cigar Wrapper

A cigar's outermost leaves, or wrapper, come from the widest part of the plant. The wrapper determines much of the cigar's character and flavor, and as such its color is often used to describe the cigar as a whole.  The wrapper of Cigar does not entirely determine the flavor of the cigar, darker wrappers tend to produce a sweetness, while lighter wrappers usually have a "drier" taste. Over 100 wrapper shades are identified by manufacturers, but the most common classifications are as follows:-

Double Claro - A greenish-brown wrapper that produces a somewhat light and bland taste.

Claro - Pale to light brown, this is the classic color of a Connecticut shade grown tobacco wrapper. This color can also be referred to as natural.

Colorado Claro - Darker brown in color and similar to a Cameroon wrapper from West Africa.

Colorado - A reddish brown wrapper most often seen in well-aged and mature cigars.

Colorado Maduro - A dark brown wrapper, usually seen on cigars produced in Honduras, Nicaragua and sometimes in Cuba.

Maduro - A dark, almost coffee-like color associated with full flavored and slightly sweet-tasting cigars.

Oscuro - Very dark, strong-flavored wrapper produced in Mexico, Brazil and Nicaragua.

Candela - A green color that was first popularized in the U.S. in the 1800's and early 1900's.

Esteban Carreras 10 Anos Cigar

10 (Dias) Anos refers to the 10 year old Nicaraguan wrapper which adorns this box pressed beauty. The Esteban Carrera 10 Anos, a Nicaraguan puro is a complex, flavorful, and rated a definite "must-try" by Cigar Press Magazine. It is made in the factory in Nicaragua. Its
rich, plentiful flavors have prompted high ratings from some of the most respected publications in the business.

Talking of one of the cigar in this line 10 Anos Robusto (Maduro) Cigar toothy maduro showed nice oils and a neat presentation after you remove the cello. Its initial flavors started off earthy, dark coffee and wet mud coat, with a sprinkling of black pepper on the finish. You found slight hint of caramel in its taste. The flavor profile stayed pretty consistent in the first third. The second third introduced some citrus-like acidity and a more pronounced black pepper flavor, minus the heat. Rich leather and an increase in spice dominated the last half of the cigar. The cigar smoked smooth and not bitter.

You can also try 10 Anos Toro (Maduro), 10 Anos Torpedo (Maduro) in this line.
